Overview Palmachim seawater RO desalination plant is located on the Mediterranean Sea coast near the city of Ashqelon, in southern Israel.
Problem Provide potable water to the Mekorot piping line, according to the latest Israeli standard for drinking water quality with additional special requirements regarding the maximum concentration of boron, chloride and overall soluble salts.
Scope of supply
Solution Design, build and operate a large-scale seawater RO desalination plant, with a capacity of 45 Million m3/year. The sea water desalination process that comprises a series of chemical and physical processes intended to take in sea water, prepare it for membrane desalination by various of pre-treatment stages, desalinate it by reverse osmosis (RO) processes – including energy recovery systems, and then prepare the desalinated water (via supplementary treatments) for eventual use as drinking water or irrigation water. GES was the process designer for the project, and constructed the plant along with partnership companies.
Advantages High efficiency process design which leads to:
- Low energy consumption
- Low chemicals consumption
- Low waste discharge
- Low cost and high efficiency operation
- High quality water - according to all required standards and specifications
