Pre treatment
The pre- treatment section of the process has a critical impact on the success of the entire process. Membranes have a tendency to clog; a good pre-treatment process will prevent the clogging and prolong the life time of the membranes.
The fluctuations of the sea water temperature during the year causes great difficulty in designing of the pre- treatment system. In addition sea turbulence, changes in currents and tides also affect the pre-treatment process.
Our in-house R&D pre-treatment system is based on state-of-the-art particle imaging and analysis technology for the study of organisms and solids in seawater. Particle size, number, length, width, shape, fluorescence and other parameters are also being collected. An image library of every type of algae to promote a rapid identification of each species is being established . In addition, a wide variety of flocculants are being selected to improve our pre treatment ability to reduce seawater silt density index (SDI) and keep TOC values to a minimum.
GES constantly undertakes pilot projects to experiment with different methods and combinations of pre-treatment in order to improve the process.
